Lights. When you add strings of lights, you add color, you add energy, you add magic. The more lights throughout and outside your shop, the better.
Colors. Whether it is spring pastels or holiday reds and greens, seasonal colors are temporary. When designing your holiday color or look, stick to two or three colors for maximum impact.
Props. While a tree or other large prop might be too much for Christmas, your props can be as simple as putting Santa hats on your mannequins.
Music. Tired of hearing the same holiday music day after day throughout the shopping season? So are your customers. For increased sales and your own pleasure, limit your selection to simple instrumentals.
Holiday Scents. Use holiday potpourri and aromatherapy oils to add a layer of holiday magic. A person’s sense of smell is the only sense we have that is directly linked to the brain.
Remember, there is a fine line between festive and “gimmicky”. You may want to keep the extra holiday doodads to a minimum as too many will take away from effective merchandising.
