HOW TO WRAP OUTSIDE TREES WITH CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

HOW TO WRAP OUTSIDE TREES WITH CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Have trees in your yard? Want to string them with Christmas lights to create some holiday magic? The best way to wrap an outside tree with Christmas light is by starting at the base of the trunk.

Follow these instructions to wrap outside trees with Christmas lights:

1. Test the lights to make sure that they’re working. Plug in and untangle all strands of lights (Here are some tip on how to untangle Christmas lights). It is important to check all lights before decorating to ensure they are in working condition. Remove any knots or tangles and replace any light bulbs beforehand to save yourself time and aggravation later on.

2. Secure an extension cord supplying electricity to the tree at the base by staking a dowel rod into the ground.

3. Tape the female end of the extension cord to the dowel rod with electrical tape. After plugging in and stringing lights, you may cover this part of your extension cord with a plastic bag; tape the bag to the dowel rod to prevent moisture from seeping into the connection making it a fire hazard. Plug in the first strand of lights into the available outlet you will be using. Having the lights plugged in and glowing while you decorate helps you see where less or more lights are needed.

4. Start by wrapping the Christmas lights at the base of the tree. Wrapping the lights around the trunk if you desire and move upwards to the branches. You don't need to wind lights on every single branch, although the more you do the better it looks. Look at your tree with a critical eye and decide which branches get lights; keep in mind how the tree will look lit up at night. Keep adding strands as necessary, making sure to wrap each connection thoroughly with electrical tape. If help is available, have someone hold the bundle of lights and follow you as you walk around wrapping the lights. If you are working alone, loop the lights over your shoulder to keep them from tangling.

5. When you reach the top of the tree, tuck or loop the end of the light strand around a branch. Step back and look for any spaces on the tree that is missing lights or where lights have been bunched together and adjust to your liking.
